Football Schedule May 3rd, 2016

Feature Matches

Our week kicks off with two Champions League Semifinal second leg matches!  This afternoon Atletico Madrid battle Bayern Munchen at the Allianz Arena in Munich.  Atletico hold a 1-0 aggregate advantage, having held Bayern scoreless last week in Spain.  Manager Diego Simeone has pledged to play an attacking game against the German side, banking on the away goal that would most certainly be a death blow to Bayern.  Pep Gaurdiola's men have proven they can come from behind when their backs are against the wall, and they will be formidable at home.  This should be a terrific Semifinal match!  Wednesday's Champions League Semifinal has Manchester City facing Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeau!  City and Real played to a goalless draw in the first leg, giving Manchester City real hope to advance to their first ever Champions League Final!  If they can manage an away goal it will make things very difficult for Madrid.  Zidane's troops will be bolstered knowing that Christiano Ronaldo is fit, and ready to return to action for Wednesday's match!  The drama builds, as we have another mouth watering clash to look forward to Wednesday afternoon!

The week's European action doesn't end there, as Liverpool find themselves in a precarious position against Villareal in the Europa League Semifinals!  Leg 2 returns to Anfield on Thursday, and the Reds are down 0-1 on aggregate.  Anyone who watched their amazing comeback against Dortmund in the Quarterfinals knows that they can more than overcome this deficit to book a spot in the Final!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I really can't ever remember saying this:  The Colorado Rapids are top of the table in the entire MLS nine games into the 2016 season!  It appears we are the team to beat, as the Club comes off another strong performance away to Montreal last week.  Now it's back home, as our much loathed rivals, Real Salt Lake, pay a visit to DSG on Saturday night!  This is the second of three matches in the 2016 Rocky Mountain cup series, and the Rapids are down 1-0 in that competition.  More importantly we are ahead of RSL only by goal differential in the league, and this would be a huge victory in terms of cementing a spot at the top of the table!  I urge all of you that love football to get out in support of our hometown team this Saturday night, as we cheer them on to another home victory over our heated rivals!

We finish our gameweek with a big Sunday morning at the Pub!  Tottenham kick off the day against Southampton, as they fight to stay ahead of the Gunners for second place!  At 9am we have Arsenal Manchester City, in a match that is critical on multiple levels.  Arsenal and City are in a battle for third in the EPL, and the Gunners still have a second place finish in their sights if they win here at home!  City will be coming off their huge match against Madrid midweek, and will be digging deep to get a result here in the Prem.  In La Liga the season is going down to the wire, and this is the penultimate weekend in Spain!  Barcelona are holding a slim advantage over Atletico and Real Madrid at the top, and to their advantage they don't have a mid week Champions League Semi to worry about!

Last but not least, we are less than two weeks out from our Second Annual America Scores Denver Footgolf Tournament at Park Hill Golf Course (see details below)!  The tournament is filling up fast, so book your spot while they are still available!  The winning team will get four tickets to the USWNT v Japan at DSG on June 2nd!

On the Horizon

We have EPL make up matches in the mid week, including West Ham Man. United fighting for a European spot andNorwich and Sunderland staving off relegation.  The Colorado Rapids are in action twice next week, with a Wednesday home fixture against Sporting K.C., and a Saturday afternoon clash away to Columbus!  The Bundesliga wraps up Saturday morning, and the final day of EPL and La Liga falls Sunday morning!
